What to Wear

Styling your wardrobe is oh, so important! Whether you dress up, dress down, or get totally funky, it is important that every family member finds their style. Does your daughter prefer pants instead of dresses? Does your son like to wear button down shirts over an untucked T-shirt? That’s ok!  Having your family photos done together DOES NOT mean you have to wear the same outfits. While we’ve all seen the images of families together in a white shirt and khakis, they don’t always make for the most interesting portraits. It is important to showcase your individual styles and personalities through the clothing you select.

Choose a complimentary color scheme & repeat it where it’s appropriate. Accessories like hats, belts, shoes and jewelry are a great way to tie your colors together without being overly matchy. Stay away from large logos or text as they are a disctration & can date your image.  Lay everything out on the bed or floor & edit it as you see fit. Grouping the clothing together will help tremendously.

Matching one another in terms of formality and the style of dress is also very important. Dad shouldn’t show up in a tie and jacket while the kids wear jeans and T-shirts. I know it can be slightly overwhelming, especially for Mom who is typically stuck with this task. If you need a wardrobe consultation I would be happy to help. Otherwise, have fun with it, don’t be afraid of color or a little pattern! I promise your images will thank you for it.
